New works from Ghunmarn Culture Centre, Arnhem Land

The Pandanus Project and Gapu Series III
Showing at Self Preservation from January 20th to February 20th

A rich, beautiful body of work from senior Wagilak women, The Pandanus Project is a collection of woven pieces which tell stories of country, culture, spiritual beliefs and Aboriginal philosophy.

The Gapu Series III - 11 new etchings in the series of the 'Gapu' edition, developed with Darwin print maker, Basil Hall. The artists are from Mailli (West Arnhem) and Wagilak (North East Arnhem) language groups. Artists have depicted scenes around 'gapu' (water), central to their daily lives and to the extensive cultural knowledge system of remote Arnhem Land.
